Private Rental Prices Still Increasing in England, Scotland and Wales

  • Rental prices paid by tenants in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) increased by 1.4% in the 12 months to November 2017.

  • Rental prices for Great Britain excluding London increased by 1.8% in the 12 months to November 2017.

  • Rental prices for London increased by 0.6% in the 12 months to November 2017. This is the lowest annual increase in London since October 2010.

Brexit deters some international staff from London tech firms - survey

One in three tech companies in London have seen talks with potential international hires fall through due to Britain’s decision to leave the European Union.

According to a survey from industry body Tech London Advocates, nearly two-thirds of London’s tech entrepreneurs believe Britain’s vote to leave the European Union has already damaged the international reputation of the city’s tech sector, although they still said it was the best place for start ups.

Iran: Iranian expats hard to woo as Western firms seek foothold in Iran

International firms are hunting for Western-educated Iranians to take on executive jobs in the Islamic Republic after the removal of most sanctions, but are finding it hard to win them over.

Interviews with Western companies and head-hunters as well as more than 20 Iranians living abroad showed that expatriates are waiting to see how promised reforms progress before deciding whether to go back, despite lucrative job offers.

Average UK rents up 1.2% in January compared to the same month in 2015

Average rents in the UK rose 1.2% to £906 a month in January compared to the same month in 2015, the slowest increase in three years, the latest rental index shows.

But average rents are some 12% above their pre-recession peak, reaching the highest level on record, according to the data from the Countrywide monthly lettings index.

The data also shows that London has seen the largest growth in rents anywhere in the country since 2007, with rents 34% higher than their pre-recession record. Between 2007 and 2016 the average Londoner has seen their rent rise from £966 to £1,295 a month.

Tube turmoil: Bank Station to be partially closed for 10 months

Bank Station is to undergo an overhaul that will see parts of the station close for up to 10 months beginning this weekend.

The Bank & Monument station complex is the Tube network’s fourth busiest interchange, dealing with 98 million passengers a year, so it’s going to be a jolly commute for workers in the City, who are already exasperated with ongoing mayhem at London Bridge.

Fortunately parts of the station will remain open, and in the long term, the £57m overhaul aims to reduce congestion.

DLR staff will walk out for 48 hours from 3 November

RMT has confirmed a 48-hour strike will take place next week on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), as the union fights a series of issues affecting staff. 

Staff will walk out from 4am 3 November until the same time on 5 November.

15 Night Tube stations where 24-hour services will add a premium to the value of properties

The arrival of London's Night Tube will bring with it a price premium of as much as 10 per cent for properties close to a handful of selected stations along the route.

Homes close to Stratford, Willesden Green, Mile End and Canada Water are set to rise more than at any other station served by the Night Tube, commanding a rise in value of between five and 10 per cent higher than-than the surrounding area.

Homeowners within a half mile radius of the stations stand to benefit from the upswing in prices, according to research from sellmyhome.co.uk and Dataloft.
