India: Random police verifications implemented in Bangalore

In line with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ efforts to maintain updated records for foreign nationals and curb potential overstays in India, the Bangalore City Police department is conducting random immigration status verifications. The goal of the checks is to enhance the security of foreign nationals in Bangalore.

India: Deadline for OCI in lieu of PIO card applications extended until June 30, 2016

Following the announcement for Person of India Origin card holders to submit Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) in lieu of Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card applications by March 31, 2016, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has now extended the application deadline to June 30, 2016

India: Japanese nationals to be eligible for visa-on-arrival

Effective March 1, 2016, Japanese tourists, business visitors, conference attendees and medical visitors who are unable to apply for a regular visa or electronic visa will be eligible for a non-extendable 30-day single-entry visa-on-arrival. The visa-on-arrival allows two visits per calendar year. 

The visa-on-arrival can be used in addition to the e-Tourist Visa (e-TV), which also allows two visits per calendar year in its own capacity. 

India: Reminder - PIO card holders are advised to switch to OCI in lieu of PIO cards

Following the merger of the Person of India Origin (PIO) card and the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card in January 2015, PIO card holders are advised to apply for OCI in lieu of PIO cards prior to March 31, 2016 in the absence of clear guidelines from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
