Oman plans to build new airport in Musandam

Oman’s government is planning to develop a new airport in the Musandam region as part of its efforts to boost the transport infrastructure in the Sultanate.

This will be the country's sixth airport, in addition to Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, Duqm and Khasab, according to Times Of Oman.

Oman: Expat remittances will not be taxed

Expat remittances will not be taxed, according to Hamood Bin Sanjoor Al Zadjali, chief of Central Bank of Oman (CBO).

Al Zadjali told Al Shabiba newspaper on Tuesday that levying taxes on expatriates is subject to several considerations.

“From the legal aspect, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreement, which Oman is committed to, stipulates that no restrictions should be imposed on transfers and payments classified as current international transactions,” said Al Zadjali.

Al Zadjali added that no gulf states impose such taxes so far. He revealed that expat remittances had increased by 1.1 percent in the first half of this year, reaching more than 2.13 billion rials (Dh20 billion)

New Muscat airport construction to be completed by 2016

Construction of the new Muscat International Airport will be completed in 2016, according to Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications (MoTC).

However, the official launch date cannot be announced, as it takes between four to six months to start operating flights after the construction is finished.

Oman: Oman Air starts daily Dreamliner flights to Frankfurt

Oman Air, the sultanate's national carrier, will be flying daily to German city of Frankfurt on the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner from its hub in Muscat starting from tomorrow (October 25).

Oman Air’s CEO Paul Gregorowitsch said with this move Oman Air has become the only airline to offer direct, non-stop flights between Muscat and Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, London, Milan and Zurich.

“Frankfurt is one of Oman Air’s most important international destinations and we are delighted to offer customers on this route an early opportunity to experience our wonderful new Dreamliner aircraft.

Swissport to handle Oman Air cargo services

Oman Air and Swissport International, a leading service company to airlines and airports, have signed a multi-station agreement for full cargo handling services at London Heathrow, Munich, Frankfurt and Paris Charles de Gaulle.

As of September 3, Swissport took over full cargo handling services for Oman Air at London Heathrow followed by a phased transition of the other three stations, with completion by November 1.
