India: Residence reporting form requirement extended to two cities

As part of its initiative to maintain updated records of foreign nationals and to curb potential overstays, the Ministry of Home Affairs has expanded the rule for hotels and landlords to report the occupancy of foreign tenants to the cities of Gurgaon and Jamnagar via the ‘Form C’. In addition, landlords in Gurgaon must submit a new Tenant Verification Form.

Application Procedure

The Bureau of Immigration has launched an online portal for hotels and landlords to register and complete the ‘Form C’ within 24 hours of a foreign national’s arrival. The form is sent online to local police stations, Foreigners’ Regional Registration Offices and Foreigners’ Registration Offices.

To submit the Tenant Verification Form, landlords must visit their jurisdictional police station.

What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals

Foreign nationals moving to Gurgaon and Jamnagar should finalise their accommodations prior to arrival to avoid registration delays.

Foreign nationals already in Gurgaon and Jamnagar and any other city affected by the reporting rule must submit the requisite documents with their next in-country immigration application, such as a visa renewal or change of residential address application.
